Addison Russell gets his first KBO career hit (0:55)

Former Chicago Cubs' Addison Russell hits a single for the Kiwoom Heroes on his debut against the Doosan Bears. (0:55)

The regular season for the Korea Baseball Organization, the highest level of baseball in South Korea, is in full swing, making the KBO one of the first major professional sports leagues to return to action during the coronavirus pandemic.

For those just getting familiar with the Korean baseball league, it's action-packed baseball filled with home runs, bat flips (lots and lots of bat flips), former MLB players and Korean-born stars who could follow the path of Hyun-Jin Ryu and Ji-Man Choi from the KBO to major league stardom.

You can watch the action with six regular-season English-language broadcast games per week, airing on ESPN or ESPN2 at 5:30 a.m. ET Tuesdays through Fridays, 4 or 4:30 a.m. ET on Saturdays and 1 a.m. ET on Sundays.

ESPN's KBO Power Rankings

(updated Sept. 14)

1. NC Dinos: 60-40-3 (Last week: 1) -- After a 3-3 week, the Dinos have fallen into a virtual tie with Kiwoom for first place. (NC has the better winning percentage, but has played eight fewer games.) Further, the top five teams are separated by just four games with three-quarters of the season gone, creating by far the tightest pennant race since KBO expanded to 10 teams in 2015, according to ESPN contributor Jeeho Yoo of Yonhap News.

2. Kiwoom Heroes: 65-45-1 (3) -- Kiwoom's 4-1-1 week was highlighted by a wild 16-15 win over SK Tuesday. The numbers: 31 runs, 33 hits, eight home runs, four Kiwoom errors. The Heroes trailed throughout (even after scoring seven in the fifth inning) before finally taking the lead with a five-run eighth.

3. LG Twins: 59-45-3 (2) -- The Twins missed a chance to tighten things even more by dropping a pair to Samsung over the weekend, scoring just one run in the two losses.

4. Doosan Bears: 57-45-4 (5) -- A huge week ahead for the Bears with two games each against the Dinos, Wiz and Twins.

5. KT Wiz: 58-46-1 (4) -- The mighty Mel Rojas Jr. hit only one homer but he made it count - a 468-foot, go-ahead blast in the 11th inning of Wednesday's win over Doosan.

6. Kia Tigers: 56-47 (6) -- Kia closed out the week in style with two wins over the first-place Dinos to stay in the playoff hunt. The Tigers are 1 ½ games out of the fifth and final spot.

7. Lotte Giants: 52-50-1 (7) -- The Giants went out with a whimper, losing 2-1 and 3-1 to the Wyverns over the weekend. At least the pain didn't linger - Sunday's loss was the fastest game of the season (2 hours, 4 minutes), according to Dan Kurtz.

8. Samsung Lions: 48-56-2 (8) -- An odd week for the Samsung pitching staff: The Lions gave up 25 runs in a pair of losses to Lotte, then yielded just one run in taking two wins from LG.

9. SK Wyverns: 36-71-1 (9) -- SK also had a wild week. After the 16-15 loss to Kiwoom, the Wyverns set a KBO record by issuing 16 walks to the Heroes in a 13-4 drubbing. Then they allowed just six total runs in winning four straight over Hanwha and Lotte.

10. Hanwha Eagles: 29-75-2 (10) -- After posting two wins and a tie against Samsung, the Eagles reverted to form and enter the week on a four-game losing streak.
