Southampton's Harrison Reed extends contract until 2021

Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Reed, 21, who has featured in the EFL Cup for Claude Puel's side this season, is the latest youngster to have progressed through the Saints' academy and be rewarded with a long-term deal.

"I know this is the right place for me, you see it time after time that young players get the opportunities here,'' Reed told Southampton's official website. "They progress on the pitch and get better as players, and that's what I want to do.''

Reed, who made his first-team breakthrough during the 2013-14 season, has made a total of 25 appearances for Southampton, including four in all competitions this term.

Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all came through Southampton's youth ranks, while in more recent years Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers also progressed through the club's academy.
