Ajax re-sign ex-Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on one-year contract

Ajax have re-signed their former striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on a one-year contract after his departure from German side Schalke.

Huntelaar, 33, played for the Dutch giants between 2006 and 2008, scoring 105 goals.

In April, the Netherlands international announced that he would be leaving Schalke when his contract expired at the end of the season.

He joined Schalke from AC Milan in 2010 but found playing time limited last season, starting only five Bundesliga games.

After signing his deal at Ajax, he told the club's official website: "It's no secret that Ajax is my club, so I'm very glad to return.

"I feel very fit and I'm already looking forward to the end of June when the preseason preparation begins.

"I won trophies with Ajax, but not the title. That is the goal at the end of the season."

Players policy director Marc Overmars said Huntelaar was "an experienced player who knows the club."

He added: "He knows what awaits him. Kasper Dolberg is our main striker, but I am sure that Klaas Jan will play a key role, both on and off the field."
