Schalke fail to rule out selling Klaas-Jan Huntelaar this summer

Schalke have not ruled out the possibility of selling striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar this summer.

Huntelaar, 32, has been consistent in front of goal for Schalke since joining from AC Milan in 2011, having hit 80 goals in 159 Bundesliga appearances, while he was the division's top scorer in 2011-12 with 29 goals.

The Netherlands international, who hit 12 league goals last term, has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months, with a return to Ajax having been touted.

In April, Huntelaar failed to rule out a move back to Amsterdam, where played for three years prior to his switch to Real Madrid in 2009.

Doubts over his Schalke future have only increased after the appointment of Markus Weinzierl as coach, who may choose not to field a traditional striker next season.

"As of now, we will continue with him," new Schalke sporting executive Christian Heidel told kicker. "But we still have to clarify whether he wants to devote his body and soul to the story we are planning here."

So far, Schalke have been quiet in the transfer market, but according to Heidel things could change if a big-money offer comes in for Germany international Leroy Sane.
