Jonas Hofmann has completed a move from one Borussia to another, leaving Dortmund to join Monchengladbach on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
The 23-year-old wide midfielder has already passed a medical with a fee, believed to be in the region of €8 million, agreed between the two clubs.
"Jonas Hofmann is going to help us compensate for the injury-enforced absence of players out wide during the second half of the season," said Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl.
"However, we see his signing above all as a long-term strengthening of our squad.
"Jonas has already shown in Mainz and Dortmund that he is an above-average talented Bundesliga player."

Hofmann has struggled to hold down a regular berth in the Dortmund team since arriving in Westphalia from Hoffenheim in 2011, and he spent last season out on loan at Mainz.
This term, he has made just seven appearances, scoring one goal.
"I had a wonderful, emotional and successful time at Dortmund, in this unique club, in amazing surroundings," said Hofmann on Dortmund's website.
"It is important to me to express my personal thanks to all of my team-mates, all of Dortmund's employees and the fans who have always supported me."
