England ease to comfortable win over Switzerland in final pre-Euro 2022 friendly

England claimed a comfortable 4-0 win over Switzerland on Thursday as they played their final warm-up match before beginning their Euro 2022 campaign next week.

England have now won their last six games in all competitions as they prepare to face Austria in their tournament opener at Old Trafford on July 6.

Both teams enjoyed chances in the first half, but it took until 55 minutes for the deadlock to be broken through a well-taken header from England forward Alessia Russo.

Georgia Stanway extended England's lead from the penalty spot on 74 minutes, and the Bayern Munich forward turned provider two minutes later as Bethany England's header sent the hosts three goals ahead.

England looked relaxed for the remainder of the match, with Jill Scott netting a header of her own deep into stoppage time to polish off another successful outing for Sarina Wiegman's side.

"There were times in the first half when we could have scored. But we were patient," Russo told ITV.

"We spoke about keeping the tempo high, and the subs came on and made a difference. It was great. The team put out a great performance.

"Sometimes it's not going to be pretty and you just have to grind out the win. Now we can get really locked in and focus on the Euros. We're all really excited."
