Man United target Breel Embolo; West Ham worry over Dimitri Payet future

As always, Transfer Talk has its finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest gossip. See the latest deals here.

TOP STORY: United keen on Breel deal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is interested in Switzerland international striker Breel Embolo -- but he's not the only one, says Sport Bild.

The German paper reports that 19-year-old Basel star Embolo is also a target for heavily funded Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, who are thought to have already tabled an offer of around £16 million for him.

But Mourinho, embarking on a revamping of the Old Trafford squad, could make a bigger bid of his own to thwart them.

The Sun says reports in Switzerland have "claimed contact has been made between the Cameroon-born star's representatives and Old Trafford chiefs."

And it suggests that Embolo -- who it says could eventually cost up to £28m -- might earn £76,000 a week with United.

Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that Mourinho has told United's players they will all get the opportunity to prove themselves.

It says the manager "has sent messages to each of the squad to indicate that he will not make any judgments on them until he has seen them play."

Players whose Old Trafford futures could be in danger under the new regime include Marouane Fellaini, Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger, the Mirror adds.

West Ham 'worried' over Payet future

The star of West Ham's domestic season has become the star of the international stage at Euro 2016 -- and now the Hammers are concerned about their chances of keeping France international Dimitri Payet, according to the Mirror.

Payet scored superb goals in his country's wins over Romania and Albania, lighting up the Romania match with a spectacular strike from distance late on.

Although it was reported earlier this week that West Ham would not consider selling him at any price -- or even be willing to suggest a hypothetical figure -- the Mirror says they are increasingly worried that he "may become impossible to hold onto."

It reports that the club's powers that be believe "Europe's big guns will still try and test their resolve should attacking midfielder Payet maintain his sparkling form."

Who might one of those big guns be? Well, the report adds that "sources close to Real Madrid have described a move for Payet as typical of the type of deal Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would like to pull off."

Meanwhile, West Ham are ready to go back in with a second offer for Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie, the Telegraph reports.

The Cherries turned down a joint bid for Ritchie and striker Callum Wilson last month but are now pondering an £8m bid for the Scotland international alone.

The Telegraph says "it is understood that West Ham contacted Bournemouth on Wednesday in an attempt to reopen negotiations but were warned not to make another bid."

But that, it adds, has not deterred the Londoners, who still believe a deal can be struck.

Mendy move 'in home stretch'

Here's a nice change for Leicester fans: reports of an arrival rather than a potential departure.

With Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante and others having been linked with pastures new, Nampalys Mendy has managed to redress the balance a little.

The Leicester Mercury reports that the Foxes are in "the home stretch" of negotiations with Nice about a move for the midfielder, who is likely to cost around £9.5m.

Reports in France suggest agreement has been reached on personal terms and it is now down to the clubs to agree a fee for the 23-year-old.

Such an agreement might not be too long in coming -- and if it does it would be second time lucky for Leicester, who tried to sign Mendy last summer.

Liverpool's Kovacic hopes to be dashed?

Gazzetta dello Sport tells us Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, linked with Liverpool, could be on his way to Roma instead.

Madrid want to sell Kovacic -- with a price of £24m having been mentioned -- rather than sending him out on loan.

The 22-year-old Croatia international moved to the Bernabeu from Inter Milan last summer, but has struggled for regular first-team opportunities.

Reports suggested Liverpool have been keeping an eye on Kovacic -- but Gazzetta says he has held talks with Roma and appears more likely to return to Serie A.

- Leeds defender Charlie Taylor is drawing the interest of a quartet of Premier League clubs, according to the Sun.

It reports that the 22-year-old left-back is on the radars of Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Stoke and West Bromwich Albion. He was last season's player of the year for the Championship club, having broken into the first team early in 2015.

- Queens Park Rangers want to bring Arsenal youngster Isaac Hayden to Loftus Road despite competition from other clubs, West London Sport reports.

Hayden, 21, is a central defender who can also play at full-back and in midfield and was loaned to Hull City last season. The Tigers could yet be tempted to try to make that a permanent move.
