8.15pm: The match has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. Umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Rob Bailey have just had a walk around under umbrellas while the rain continued to fall and decided that there was no prospect of play.

Please join us on Friday for the second match in this T20I series, which will also be played in Northampton, and in the meantime, keep those fingers crossed for clear skies!

7.45pm: ICYMI ... you haven't missed a thing. The toss has been delayed by heavy rain, which hasn't stopped yet. An update on the latest time that play can begin for a five-overs-per-side match is 9.15pm local time. We'll let you know as soon as there is any news on a possible mop-up and start.

6.45pm: Good evening. A quick update from the first T20I between England Women and West Indies Women ... it's raining heavily in Northampton and the toss has been delayed.

With England looking to extend their 13-match winning streak across all formats and West Indies looking to atone for their 3-0 drubbing in the ODI series, showers settled in some time ago and the covers remain on. The cut-off for a start is 9.15pm local time for a game comprising five overs per side. We'll keep you posted on progress towards a match as updates come to hand.

In the meantime, Australian wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has made a rather bold prediction about her side's hopes against England in the Women's Ashes starting next month. Happy reading and here's hoping there's some live play soon.
