Idaho State, first-year coach Rob Phenicie reach contract extension

Idaho State first-year coach Rob Phenicie has agreed to a three-year contract extension, although it won't be finalized until after the season, athletic director Jeff Tingey said Monday.

Phenicie wasn't hired until one week before spring practice last offseason. The Bengals are 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky games.

Saying the extension started several weeks ago, Tingey noted, "Coach Phenicie has more important things to worry about and I would hate to be a distraction. We will let him deal with the team and coaching and we'll work on that at the end of the season."

The extension would have to be approved by an Idaho state board.
