Betting blog: Italians to keep another clean sheet en route to quarterfinals

Sunday morning, London

We enter the knockout stages of Euro 2020 and there appears a near certainty in one of the opening fixtures for us to sink our teeth into.

Italy have been ultra impressive in taking out all three group games so far, and what's more, they've done it without conceding a goal. In fact, you have to go back 12 games to find the last time a team put one past the Italians. Should the Azzurri keep another clean sheet, they will have equalled the all-time record set by the Italians of 1972-74.

That makes it a daunting task for the Austrians, who face a side that is unbeaten in their last 30 competitive outings! So, at the $1.50 mark, I think Italy will progress through to the quarterfinals, but there isn't much value straight out.

If you want to make a bit of coin, then I think the Correct Score market offers a few handy options. The 2-0 scoreline, paying $6 with TAB, looks pretty good to me. I am banking on the fact Italy will keep the Austrians scoreless, while managing to frustrate them for a good portion of the match. Austria won't be a pushover though. They are blessed with some really talented players such as Marko Arnautovic, David Alaba and Christoph Baumgartner, and have proven they aren't here by sheer fluke.

When it's all said and done though, Roberto Mancini has transformed Italy into a powerhouse once more and I can see them not only getting past Austria here but going deep into the finals too.

TIP: Italy 2-0 (Correct Score) @ $6
