The UEFA Champions League, the highest level of competition in European club football, continues on ESPN in February with coverage of the 1st leg from the Round of 16. Following December’s final Matchday in the Group Stage, the group winner and runner-up from each group, 16 sides in all, have advanced to take the field this month. Not surprisingly, two of the most accomplished players in the game – both currently plying their trade in Spain – have led the scoring, Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid and Lionel Messi for Barcelona, with both sides favoured to be on the pitch this month.
England’s Arsenal has been in enviable form this season both at home and in Europe, while compatriots Manchester United had their hands full in a tough Group A against Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine and Germany’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen. France’s Paris Saint-Germain, Spain’s Atlético de Madrid and England’s Chelsea were looking good to advance midway through the Group Stage, while defending champions Bayern Munich soundly defeated England’s Manchester. Don't forget EVERY Champions League game is shown Live on ESPN3.com with Foxtel and Sky subscriptions.
