Owen Farrell will lead England's attempts to bounce back from their Calcutta Cup defeat, after captain Dylan Hartley was ruled out of the clash with France in Paris.

Hartley's injury means that Jamie George will make his first Six Nations start at hooker as Eddie Jones names an otherwise unchanged pack.

In the backs there are recalls for Elliot Daly and Ben Te'o, with Jonny May switching to the right wing and Jonathan Joseph dropping to the bench. Anthony Watson, meanwhile, is handed the No. 15 jersey in place of Mike Brown.

Harlequins fullback Brown is named among the replacements alongside Joseph, where Luke Cowan-Dickie, Kyle Sinckler, James Haskell and Sam Simmonds are also included.

"This game is about the opportunity for the team to move forward and we want a response from the players this week," said Jones.

"Against France we want to be brutal and aggressive on the gain line and to play with a great tactical discipline."

England team to play France:

Watson, May, Te'o, Farrell (captain), Daly, Ford, Care; M. Vunipola, George, Cole, Launchbury, Itoje, Lawes, Robshaw, Hughes.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Marler, Sinckler, Haskell, Simmonds, Wigglesworth, Joseph, Brown.
