Ex-NFLer Larry Johnson: I believe I have CTE

In an interview with the Washington Post, former NFL running back Larry Johnson talked of his violent tendencies, memory loss, anxiety and paranoia, saying those symptoms are consistent with former players who died from CTE.

The Redskins placed tight end Jordan Reed on injured reserve, the team announced today. Reed played just six games this season because of a hamstring injury. He caught 27 passes this season. They also placed RB Byron Marshall and LB Chris Carter on IR. They signed RB Kapri Bibbs, LB Pete Robertson and LB Otha Peters to the active roster.

Agent: Redskins' Cravens cleared for activities

Redskins safety Su'a Cravens, who is sitting out this season after suffering from post-concussion syndrome, has been cleared to resume activities, his agent said.

Jay Gruden on Kirk Cousins, "He was not quite as accurate as he has been. Everyone who has seen Kirk play in his three years, knows he missed throws he normally makes."

Linebacker Chris Carter will need surgery to repair a broken fibula in his right leg. Carter was injured in Sunday's loss to the Chargers. His loss will put another dent on the special teams' units.

Jay Gruden said he thought about going for a two-point conversion after Bashaud Breeland's interception return for a touchdown made it 30-12. They could have cut it to a two-score game with 2:36 remaining. But Gruden said they were down to one running back, three receivers and left tackle Trent Williams was done. Gruden said he didn't want to risk further injuries by trying to extend the game. "I wanted to get out of the game, get back on the plane and get ready for Arizona," he said.

Linebacker Zach Brown is undergoing an MRI on his foot to determine how his Achilles is holding up, after playing with a sore one for multiple weeks. Brown is an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Jay Gruden said on the long touchdown pass vs. Josh Norman, the corner was supposed to have safety help deep. D.J. Swearinger had aligned deep outside on the other side of the field. Norman stayed to the outside, forcing the receiver to where he felt there would be help.

Jay Gruden: "I feel like we're putting plans in, studying, practicing and watching tape and should be prepared. For whatever reason it doesn't look that way."

Redskins suffering through another ugly December (0:52)

Corner Josh Norman said the 30-13 loss was "most unfortunate to the fans. We had a packed house out here. They showed love out here on the West Coast for D.C. It's disappointing to put out a show like that [or] even on our home field. It's tough to be a Redskins fan right now."

Redskins safety D.J. Swearinger was upset with some unnamed teammates who, he said, did not prepare properly. He said questions were being asked in pre-game about assignments that should already have been known. That's where teams learn who wants to play: It's not about playing hard in games, it's about preparing the right way during the week.

As a defense, safety D.J. Swearinger said "we've taken a major step back." He said it's on both the players and coaches to get it fixed.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins said he doesn't want to use injuries as an excuse. He also said the Redskins have little margin for error. "So many teams are going through it. It's hard to say who's had it worse," he said.

Running back Byron Marshall said he will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the severity of his hamstring injury. He was hurt fielding a kickoff.

Jay Gruden blamed himself and the coaches for the loss saying they weren't prepared. "Right now we've let our fans down," Gruden said.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said, "I'm at a loss for words. I never thought we'd get beat like this two weeks in a row."

The Redskins lost another ugly game, falling to 5-8. Forget whether they're still alive in the postseason or not, this is not the way they need to finish the season. There's not a single thing they can point to as something to build on today. They were outgained by nearly 300 yards and have been outscored the last two games by a combined 41 points.

For one of the few times in a while, the Redskins could use a speed rush. They had just one defensive lineman on the field -- Matt Ioannidis -- and three outside linebackers -- Ryan Kerrigan, Junior Galette and Preston Smith. Galette ran a stunt and they applied pressure, forcing a quick throw underneath and a third-down stop.
