49ers DL Ronald Blair, who has been on injured reserve with a hand injury, participated in practice on Wednesday. Blair is expected to be one of two Niners brought back from injured reserve this year and with his practice window now open, he could return as soon as Week 9.

49ers' Wednesday injury report: Did not participate -- DE Elvis Dumervil (not injury related), WR Pierre Garcon (not injury related), FB Kyle Juszczyk (back), DE Aaron Lynch (calf), T Joe Staley (not injury related). Limited participation -- LB Ray-Ray Armstrong (shoulder), LB Brock Coyle (shoulder), LB Reuben Foster (ankle), DT D.J. Jones (quadricep), LB Dekoda Watson (groin), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (chest). 49ers S Eric Reid said he met up with QB Colin Kaepernick on Monday night in New York. Reid said he and Kaepernick discussed some issues for Reid to take into the meeting with owners on Tuesday and that Kaepernick did not attend those meetings because he was not invited by the NFL. As for Kaepernick's pending collusion suit and what it could mean for his future in the league, Reid said Kaepernick is in "good spirits." Reid added that Kaepernick has been working out and looks good.

Asked how rookie C.J. Beathard's performance over the final 10 games will influence the 49ers' plans for the future at quarterback, coach Kyle Shanahan said "a ton." Shanahan said Beathard has to show he has the ability to lead the Niners where they want to go (i.e. the Super Bowl) in order to nail down the job beyond this year.

The 49ers made a couple of practice squad moves on Wednesday, signing CB Greg Mabin and TE Cole Wick. In order to make room on the practice squad, the team released DB Jarnor Jones.

With the Cowboys coming to town this week, it's only natural that the 49ers will honor Dwight Clark on Sunday. Clark, of course, holds a special place in Niners' lore for "The Catch" against Dallas in the 1982 NFC Championship game. Clark, who announced he had been diagnosed with ALS in March, is expected to attend and there will be halftime festivities honoring him and 35 other members of the Super Bowl XVI champions. Clark and Joe Montana are also expected to address the crowd. All fans attending will receive a Dwight Clark t-shirt.

In response to reports that 49ers linebackers Ray-Ray Armstrong and Reuben Foster were the target of, and escaped an attempted armed robbery early Monday morning, the team released the following statement: “We are aware of the reports regarding the robbery and are very thankful no one was harmed. Reuben and Ray-Ray have been, and will continue to be, cooperative with any further police investigation.”

With injuries piling up on the defensive line, the 49ers signed defensive linemen Tony McDaniel and Leger Douzable to the active roster on Tuesday. To make room, DE Arik Armstead (broken hand) was placed on injured reserve and TE Logan Paulsen was released.

Power Rankings: Niners nearing rock bottom

The 49ers keep getting close, but they've yet to bag a win. That leaves them ahead of only the Browns on our list, with a few tough opponents looming.

FPI: Start assembling draft board in Santa Clara

At 0-6, the 49ers are virtually out of playoff contention. But ESPN's FPI says they're almost a lock for a top-five draft pick in 2018 (94.5 percent), and trail only the Browns for best odds at No. 1 overall (29.6).

As he mentioned on Sunday, 49ers S Eric Reid is in New York today for the meeting between players and owners discussing social justice reform and community initiatives. Niners CEO Jed York is among the owners participating as well.

NFL Panic Meter: 49ers

San Francisco should be panicking at 0-6, but that doesn't seem to be the case, perhaps because the Niners knew a turnaround would take time.

49ers DE Aaron Lynch is dealing with a calf strain, per coach Kyle Shanahan. With Lynch dealing with that and Arik Armstead's broken hand, Niners suddenly thin on bodies at DE.
