Interesting development Sunday: Steelers defense shut down the offense in ‘7 shots' drill. The first-team offense failed to convert four attempts, and a Josh Dobbs scramble - which probably shouldn't count in a non-tackling still - was the second team's only score in three tries. Teammates erupted after L.J. Fort's acrobatic interception on the final play.

The Steelers have signed the massive Zach Banner, a 6-foot-8, 360-pound offensive tackle who played eight games for the Browns last year. Banner was drafted by the Colts in 2017 and has bounced around, last playing with the Carolina Panthers, who waived him in May.

Antonio Brown was awfully talkative in his first full practice in more than a week after returning from a leg injury. After beating Artie Burns in a one-on-one drill, Brown said, "you ain't stick me since we've been here." He also hit Joe Haden with a double move.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph said he played one third-quarter snap with a flat football, throwing a deep pass to Damoun Patterson that went incomplete. Officials switched out the ball after that. “As soon as I got it, I said something is not right. What else can you do?” Rudolph said. “I just called the next play and there was a new ball in there."

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin came away from the preseason opener at Philadelphia pleased with the quarterback play of Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs and Mason Rudolph, who completed 20-of-29 passes combined for 252 yards. "Largely they did a good job of taking care of the football" along with good communication at the line of scrimmage, Tomlin told reporters after the game.

Here is the NFL's statement on Thursday night's Steelers-Eagles game: “All footballs were in compliance with NFL rules following the pregame inspection process and all proper procedures were followed. In 3rd quarter, a football that was found to be defective, removed from play and will be sent back to Wilson for review."
