The sting of 1-2 instead of 2-1

Of 13 teams to enter Week 3 at 1-1, only the Texans and Seahawks lost (a third team to join them Monday night). Since the playoff field expanded to 1990, teams to start 1-2 have reached the playoffs less than half as often as teams to start 2-1. That said, ESPN's FPI still pegs Seattle's odds at 65.8 percent, while Houston is down at 7.4 percent.

Anthem protests and excellent football

Mike Golic Jr. breaks down an incredible Sunday of NFL action, including Brady's comeback, the Dolphins' failure and the Raiders' struggles. Plus, anthem protest discussion.

Watson keeps making plays with his legs

Deshaun Watson totaled 41 yards rushing on seven carries on Sunday, but that wasn't all. He also racked up 112 passing yards from outside the pocket, the second-highest total by a QB in a single game since the start of 2016 (Russell Wilson - 121 in Week 14 of 2016). (ESPN Stats & Info)

Deshaun Watson was 6-of-9 for 112 yards passing outside the pocket, the second-most since Russell Wilson had 121 such yards in Week 14 of 2016, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Watson was under pressure on all 6 of those completions, and he completed 3 consecutive passes outside the pocket in the 4th quarter before his Hail Mary attempt was intercepted to end the game.

Jadeveon Clowney said there was a discussion among players about linking arms during the national anthem: "At first we weren't going to do anything. Previously we've seen all the guys doing it since last season and we [were] like, we don't want to get involved with that. But after listening to him talk the other night, a lot of guys came up, like, man, we need to do something as a team, so we decided to [link arms].”

Breakout game for Brandin Cooks fantasy owners...The Patriots WR caught five passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Vertical routes down the field, play action concepts to clear out space and one-on-one matchups.

The Texans still have not beaten the Patriots in New England, but Deshaun Watson got the Texans closer to a win than they have recently. The rookie was 22-of-33 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions (although one was on a game-ending Hail Mary pass). He may not have led them to a win, but the rookie showed the Texans finally have a franchise quarterback.

Looked like the Texans were playing 2-Deep coverage on Tom Brady's TD pass to Brandin Cooks. Brady pumped to the inside vertical. That held the safety over the top and opened up a window to hit Cooks on the fade for the go-ahead score.

Deshaun Watson has now made two great throws for touchdowns in this game. His passing game continues to improve. He's thrown a bad interception, but otherwise hasn't looked like a rookie quarterback, which is especially impressive against the Patriots.

The Patriots cleared out of the middle of the field on the Brandin Cooks TD catch. Play action out of a run set with a deep post/seam over the top. Lot of room for Cooks to run the dig route.

Through two quarters, the Texans have looked like a totally different team than they did in the first two games of the season. Deshaun Watson is 12-of-16 for 123 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. He has used his legs to escape pressure and his 29-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Ellington was an excellent throw in traffic.

Just like in the playoff game vs. the Patriots last season, the Texans' front seven is having a big impact in the game and limiting what Tom Brady can do. This week Texans players said it's hard to stop Brady and the goal is to just contain him. It's still early, but they've had success so far.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

The Texans' strip-sack of Tom Brady that Jadeveon Clowney returned for a touchdown was worth 18% in win probability. The Patriots currently have a 64% chance to win.
