Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was fined $26,739 for lowering his helmet to initiate contact against Philadelphia defensive back Corey Graham in last week's win against the Eagles. Elliott is appealing. Elliott was the first offensive player to be flagged for that penalty this season. It's the second time in four weeks Elliott has been fined. He was fined $13,369 for unsportsmanlike conduct for donating $21 into the Salvation Army kettle after a touchdown against Washington.

Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin will miss the first game of his career, having been ruled out of Sunday's game at Indianapolis because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He did not practice all week and it was a long shot to play anyway. He will be replaced by rookie Connor Williams, who opened the season as the Cowboys' left guard. Martin had played and started all 73 regular-season games in his career.

Having gone through three practices, Sean Lee is expected to play Sunday at Indianapolis after missing the last five games with a hamstring pull, but he doesn't care what role he will play alongside Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch. He acknowledged there will be some kind of rotation against the Colts. “I've not played football in a while and need to continue to work back and practice and play,” Lee said. “I've not done a good job of stringing games together. Like anybody, I need to practice and play consistently but that's something I plan on doing. Obviously I need to build to that.”

Jason Garrett did not rule out Zack Martin from playing Sunday at Indianapolis, but the Pro Bowl right guard will miss his third straight practice because of a sprained MCL in his left knee that he aggravated last week against Philadelphia. The official designation for the game will come out later today but if Martin cannot play, rookie Connor Williams will start at right guard.

Randy Gregory will miss his second straight practice because of a family issue but Jason Garrett said the defensive end will play Sunday at Indianapolis. Garrett said the issue is not related to the meetings Gregory has had periodically this season in Chicago with the NFL's medical director. Gregory is scheduled to return to Dallas today but not in time for practice.

After sitting out of Wednesday's practice, Ezekiel Elliott was a full participant Thursday, as expected. He was coming off 40 touches in the win against Philadelphia and the Cowboys want to be mindful of his work in practice to keep him fresh for game day. “He wants those touches. We gave him 40 and he will come to me and said I could have checked it down to him on this play or that play,” Dak Prescott said. “He wants 50 touches. He wants the ball … He wants the touches out of the backfield and wants to help the team win in any way he can. It's Ezekiel Elliott. He is doing what he does best and it's exciting to see. We love having him on the team.”

Jaylon Smith is 5-0 at Lucas Oil Stadium. He won four high school state championships there while at Bishop Luers High school and one game at while at Notre Dame. Smith and his brother, Rod, grew up in Fort Wayne, about two hours from Indianapolis, and will have more than 100 family and friends in attendance Sunday. “It's homefield advantage for me,” Smith said. “I'm excited to be back.”

Officially, Ezekiel Elliott is on the injury report with a shoulder injury, which occurred in the second half of the Philadelphia win, but it won't affect his availability for this week's game at Indianapolis. “I've had a lot of touches,” said Elliott, who had 40 touches vs. the Eagles. “Just trying to make sure I'm fresh for Sunday.” Sean Lee (hamstring) practiced for the first time in more than a month and Tavon Austin (groin) practiced for the first time in nearly two months on a limited basis. Both could be available Sunday against the Colts.

For the first time since re-aggravating a hamstring injury Nov. 5 against the Tennessee Titans, Sean Lee was on the practice field Wednesday. Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith took the first turns during individual drills. If Lee plays this week, it will likely be on a pitch count after missing the last five games. Wide receiver Tavon Austin was also on the field for the first time since suffering a groin injury on Oct. 14 against Jacksonville.

Ezekiel Elliott was not on the field during the open portion of practice to the media. Elliott suffered a stinger in last week's win vs. Philadelphia but he managed to return to the game. He had 40 touches against the Eagles and the Cowboys have been mindful of his workload in practice during the season.
