As Falcons coach Dan Quinn indicated, no plans to bring in a safety such as Eric Reid at this time despite season-ending injuries to Ricardo Allen (Achilles) and Keanu Neal (ACL). The team re-signed Sharrod Neasman, a former undrafted player who played in 14 games with the Falcons the previous two seasons and also spent time with the Saints. Neasman more of a special teams player who can add depth at safety. Team also signed linebacker Bruce Carter, a former second round draft pick of the Cowboys who was last with the Jets and has 311 career tackles (seven seasons). Falcons placed Allen on IR and waived rookie linebacker Richard Jarvis. They also signed linebacker Richie Brown and cornerback Deante Burton to the practice squad while waiving Christian Blake from the practice squad.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn believes in his "tough ass" group and won't use rash of injuries as an excuse.

Vaughn McClure ESPN Staff Writer

Falcons coach Dan Quinn when asked if not going to get a high-profile free agent safety (Eric Reid) or trading for a high-profile safety (Earl Thomas) after season-ending injuries to FS Ricardo Allen (Achilles) and SS Keanu Neal (ACL) has to do with financial matters and compensation or the fact that he's comfortable with what he has on the roster now: ``One, we really believe in Keanu and Rico. And so when you do bring in a player, where does that player fit in moving forward? The next piece of that is at free safety, that is the next in line where we're thinking with Damontae (Kazee). Had it not be the case, then I'd say, `Man, we better really go out and make that move.' '' Quinn said the Falcons will look at other safeties for depth now but emphasized not a starter. He put Jordan Richards, Kemal Ishmael, Keith Tandy, and Brian Poole in the strong safety mix, with Poole potentially getting a serious look if the Falcons reshuffle things and move Robert Alford to Poole's nickel spot and rookie Isaiah Oliver outside to corner. Falcons also have to think about paying guys in the future with Neal and middle linebacker Deion Jones likely to get long-term extension once they come back fully healthy off injuries, and Vic Beasley and Grady Jarrett also due for extensions. Allen already got a three-year, $19.5 million extension.

Checked with Elias -- the NFC South's 223 combined points through the first three intradivisional games is the highest combined point total for ANY division's first three intradivisional games since the 1970 merger. The previous record was 213 by the NFC South in 2016.

Falcons fall to 1-2 and are 1-1 in NFC South after 43-37 overtime loss to rival Saints. Breakout game for rookie WR Calvin Ridley (three TDs) and career-high 5 TD passes for Matt Ryan going to waste. To top it off, Falcons have another major injury concern with starting free safety Ricardo Allen being carted off late with what was called a calf injury. Falcons have to figure out how to address their defensive woes quickly with Deion Jones (foot) not back until at least Dallas game and Keanu Neal (ACL) done for season.

For all you Calvin Ridley fans following at home, the record (1950 forward) for PPR fantasy points in a game by a rookie wide receiver is 60.7 by Jerry Butler in 1979 Week 4.

Falcons rookie first round draft pick Calvin Ridley has three touchdown receptions today. Julio Jones has three touchdowns all of last season.

Falcons trail the Saints 16-14 at halftime despite a dynamic showing by Falcons rookie WR Calvin Ridley, who has five catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns on six targets with 39 yards after the catch and another nine yards rushing. Matt Ryan is 11 of 17 for 186 yards with the two scores to Ridley as Ridley has a decisive edge on Saints corner P.J.Williams. Falcons need to get more out of Tevin Coleman and running game with 11 rushes for just 22 yards.

Falcons TE Austin Hooper paid for 24-year-old Louisiana native Kyron Greenup to attend today's Falcons-Saints game as the honorary captain. Greenup, 24, is bound to a wheelchair after a drive-by shooting caused a brain injury. "It means everything to me," Greenup told ESPN. "This is a blessing. I'm going to enjoy the moment for life. I'm from Louisiana, but I'm officially a Falcons for life."

Falcons inactives vs. Saints: RB Devonta Freeman, CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson, S Keith Tandy, G Zac Keri, T Matt Gono, DE Derrick Shelby, DE Takk McKinley

Vaughn McClure ESPN Staff Writer

Falcons pass-rusher Vic Beasley Jr. understands the importance of trying to push Drew Brees off the spot Sunday despite not having Takk McKinley (groin) and Derrick Shelby (groin) in the lineup to help rush. In the last seven Falcons-Saints matchups, the Falcons are 4-0 when they sack Drew Brees at least twice, including 5 sacks in the Falcons' 30-14 win back in 2014. ``Get into his face because if you allow a QB like Drew Brees to step up in the pocket, he'll just pick you apart all day,'' Beasley said. ``I think we've done good according to the teams that we've played, but now it's more emphasized because of the QB we're playing this week.'' The Falcons have four sacks, with nickel back Brian Poole and McKinley having two each. Beasley's still looking for his first and has no QB hits. The Falcons have 10 QB hits. We'll see what type of interior push the Falcons get, whether it be from the defensive tackles, blitzing, or stunts. ``Without a doubt, getting pressure in [Brees'] face is key,'' said nose tackle Grady Jarrett, who leads the team with 4 QB hits. ``Kind of keep pressuring those A and B gaps. That's kind of the blueprint when you're facing the Saints. The shorter the QB, a lineman in his face, it's harder for him to see downfield.''

WR Julio Jones (calf) officially set to play vs. Saints Sunday based on final injury report. Falcons rule out DE Takk McKinley (groin), RB Devonta Freeman (knee), DE Derrick Shelby (groin) and LB Corey Nelson (calf). CB Isaiah Oliver (ankle), WR Russell Gage (knee), and G Ben Garland (calf) ready to go.

Vaughn McClure ESPN Staff Writer

Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian on Julio Jones (calf tightness) missing practice for second consecutive day: ``I've been down this road with him now before. Julio is a pro's pro. And even though he's not on the field at practice with us today, the guy works at it. He's in meetings. He's attentive. He's asking questions. So if he's physically ready to play, which obviously remains to be seen, I have no doubt in my mind he'll be mentally prepared to play.''
