Australian Diamonds captain and goal shoot Caitlin Bassett will miss netball's Quad Series in England after fracturing her left foreman during a practice match in Manchester.

Bassett will remain with the team, who play their opening match against South Africa in Liverpool on Monday (AEDT), while Giants shooter Kiera Austin will join the squad.

"We're prepared for situations such as this and I'm confident the team we have for the rest of the series has what it takes to remain on track throughout this tournament," said Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander.

Caitlin Thwaites, Steph Wood and Gretel Tippett will share the shooting responsibilities against South Africa.

Bassett's forearm will be in a splint for about six weeks and Alexander was confident she would be available for the opening round of Super Netball in April.

The Quad Series also features Commonwealth Games champions England and New Zealand's Silver Ferns.
