Super Netball's newest team the Collingwood Magpies have announced their 2017 leadership group with midcourter Madi Robinson named captain for the side's inaugural season.
Considered one of the best wing attacks in the world, Robinson has been exceptional leader both on and off the court for the Australian Diamonds and for her former team the Melbourne Vixens.
A dual Liz Ellis medal winner, Robinson her appointment as the Magpie's inaugural captain was special.
"I never thought I'd say I'm a Captain of Collingwood in my wildest dreams. Now that it is official, I'm so delighted and it's a huge honour," Robinson said.
Robinson will be joined by fellow Diamonds player's Ash Brazill and Sharni Layton as co-captains in a historic year for the club.
Collingwood President Eddie McGuire was excited by Robinson's appointment which holds further significance as the club enters its 125th year.
"Bill Strickland was our first captain in 1897 and today we announce Madi Robinson as our inaugural captain of the Collingwood netball team," McGuire said.
"Just as Bill Strickland was a giant of our fledgling club and set the foundations for what was to unfold, we have the greatest of confidence that Madi will lay the foundations for another great team and club."
The Magpies have been labelled the 'dream team' by fellow Super Netball sides', and while the new team have yet to take the court together, Robinson said the side's leadership qualities will definitely help the team live up to the title.
"Every player on the team has such great leadership qualities. So when people say 'you're the dream team', we can say 'yes we definitely are!'"
