Markelle Fultz on his new approach at the free throw line: "Yeah it's something I added right now. Just trial and error. It's been working nice for me so I'm going to stick with it for now." Fultz said he feels comfortable with the free-throw style, in which he shuffles the ball back and forth between his hands before shooting.

Mitchell at a loss after rare 35-shot, 0-assist night

Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points on 35 shot attempts and had zero assists, leaving the second-year Jazz star to question his performance in Utah's 113-107 loss to the 76ers.

Joel Embiid said he hurt his hand early in Friday's win over the Jazz. He said his hand has been hurting on and off since last season when he injured it against the Suns. Embiid said his hand was swollen after the Sixers' win but he expects to play Saturday night.

Ben Simmons converging a layup late in the fourth to give Philadelphia a lead and getting fouled by Donovan Mitchell had to be meaningful. Mitchell and Simmons had a public battle over the Rookie of the Year award last season.

Quite a sequence to finish the third quarter for Philly: with his unorthodox free-throw approach, Markelle Fultz made one of two from the line. He got the rebound of his miss and fed Jimmy Butler who converted a layup and got fouled. He made the free throw to give the Sixers a one-point lead heading into the fourth.

Joel Embiid picked up his third personal and a technical late in the second quarter and headed to the bench with a minute to go. A few bad possessions for the Sixers followed and the home crowd booed them off the court at halftime.

This crowd is still buzzing each time Jimmy Butler makes a play - and he's made plenty of them so far. He has 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting in 13 first-half minutes but Philly has let a double-digit lead fall to six.

Donovan Mitchell started slowly but he's hit his last two shots and defended Markelle Fultz with intensity to help Utah cut Philly's lead to 12 early in the second quarter. Reading Mitchell's body language, he seems to be feeding off of boos from the Sixers crowd.

Loud applause for Sixers reserve guard Markelle Fultz after he made a free throw. Fultz knocked down his first shot and hit one of two from the line. He had an unorthodox way of bringing the ball up to shoot his free throws. I'm sure it will make the rounds on social media.

The pick and roll between Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid has worked well early on for Philly. Butler has 7 points, 2 assists and a block in the opening seven minutes.
