Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who is close with Phil Jackson, was asked about Jackson's tenure in New York. "I felt bad for the way things ended," Kerr said at Warriors practice at St. John's University today. "I think Phil did some good things here. Drafting Porzingis and hiring Jeff Hornacek. I think Ntilikina looks like a good player. It feels like they're on a good path right now. It's a hard league, man. Things really have to fall (in your favor), you have to do a good job. But you also have to get some luck. Phil knows that better than anybody. You can be really lucky and inherit Michael Jordan and you can also be unlucky and things don't go your way. It's all part of it. We're all going to have our moments in this league - ups and downs. Phil had so much success as a coach. I don't know, maybe he was due for the down part of it."

Rumor Central: Ron Baker to return soon?

New York Knicks guard Ron Baker has been unavailable to coach Jeff Hornacek since the third game this season because of a sore left shoulder.

After struggling in the 1st 3 quarters Monday, Frank Ntilikina didn't play in the 4th. It was his decision. "Frank's under the weather,'' Jeff Hornacek said after the Knicks' 107-85 victory Monday. "He's been fighting it two, three days now. he just didn't have it tonight. He was fine with it. He actually said, ‘I'm not helping the team now.' Frank's a smart player. He realized he didn't have enough energy. He sacrificed."

Knicks offseason moves pay off against Clippers

The Knicks continue to exceed low outside expectations on the strength of their offseason additions, hanging the latest loss on the slumping Clippers.

Tim Hardaway played through discomfort in his sore foot on Monday but said he doesn't have plantar fasciitis in his foot. "I was able to cut, I was able to move. After the game, I got treatment and I feel fine.... it's not (plantar fasciitis). Just intense soreness with ligaments and stuff. Other than that, it's fine. Just changed up the shoes a little bit. I'm good to go."

Porzingis helps Knicks rout Clippers (1:27)

Knicks (9-7) beat a Clippers team that has now lost nine in a row. What a mess in Los Angeles. Six players in double figures for the Knicks, led by Kristaps Porzingis (25 points). Doug McDermott had 16 points off the bench, which included some key threes.

The Knicks are up by 20 and brief but loud ‘We want Beasley' chants have broken out in the upper bowl at MSG.

Reiterating the Jarrett Jack point: the Clippers cut the Knicks' 17-point lead to two in the third when Jack picked off an errant pass, pushed the ball and found Doug McDermott for a 3-point field goal. A few minutes later, he drove and found McDermott again for another 3 to increase New York's lead to 12.

The Knicks would be in a bad place tonight - and this season, probably - without Jarrett Jack. The veteran PG has 7 points and 3 assists against the Clippers; he just spearheaded a 10-0 New York run in the second quarter.

The Lakers are keeping tabs on free agent Mindaugas Kuzminskas. According to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking, the Lakers, in need of perimeter shooting, are doing their due diligence and met with the forward recently while they evaluate their wing depth.

The Clippers have opened the second quarter hitting 5 of their first 6 shots, including both 3-point attempts. Jeff Hornacek doesn't seem pleased, calls a timeout just three minutes into the quarter.

Griffin takes charge, wipes away Ntilikina's bucket (0:20)

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

The first 12 minutes of Knicks-Clippers featured 13 turnovers, 11 fouls and 19 misses shots. Not the most entertaining quarter of basketball. It will be interesting to see how Blake Griffin and Kristaps Porzingis adjust to one another over the course of the game.

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Tough test for Kristaps Porzingis tonight: he's matched up against Blake Griffin and trying to shake off a shooting slump. He's made one of his first four (a post-up over Griffin) and has two early turnovers.

Jeff Hornacek on one of biggest differences on offense between last season and this season: "I think it's probably more ball movement and body movement. This group of guys, there are some really good guys who cut off the ball," he said, mentioning Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. as strong cutters. "We're not standing around as much, having one guy just go to it. We have to be careful that, sometimes when KP gets the ball in there that we're not all just standing there, watching. We're trying to work on that of cutting from the weak side and keeping constant movement so teams can't double him."

Jeff Hornacek cautions that he's not a doctor but says Tim Hardaway Jr. may be dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot.

Damyean Dotson had 23 points, 6 rebounds and three assists in the G League on Sunday for Westchester. He's back with the Knicks' big club on Monday for its game against the Clippers. It's a transition Dotson has made a few times this season, and it's one he takes seriously and uses to his advantage. If he's on the bench during a Knicks game, Dotson says he's focused on studying how Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee perform in the Knicks' offensive and defensive schemes. He then applies that to his games in Westchester, which he says has helped his development significantly. Dotson's professional approach to his D League appearances is one of the reasons why Knicks coaches and management are excited about the second-round pick. Also, no matter if he's with the Knicks' NBA team or the G League club, Dotson has the same pre-game routine: praying for the health of all players involved, and praying for a victory.

Tim Hardaway Jr. (sore foot) will play tonight against the Clippers.
