The Rockets announced the hire of Sachin Gupta as a special advisor. Gupta was Daryl Morey's first hire in Houston and worked for the Rockets for six seasons before leaving to pursue his MBA from Stanford. He consulted for ex-76ers GM Sam Hinkie while at Stanford and was hired as Philadelphia's VP of basketball operations after graduating. Gupta, who also a degree from MIT, is a former ESPN employee who created the Trade Machine.

Rockets sign G League standout

The Houston Rockets signed F Chris Johnson to a one-year deal, according to the Houston Chronicle. The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged 13.5 PPG and 6.2 RPG with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers last season. Johnson, 27, increases the Rockets' training camp roster to 20 players.
