RHP Cahill latest A's starter to be sidelined

A's right-hander Trevor Cahill has been scratched from Saturday's scheduled start with a strained muscle in his back, the latest in a long line of A's starters dealing with injuries. Cahill is returning to Oakland for an MRI.

99 wins. That's what the Oakland A's are on pace to finish the season with, following a 10-0 skunking of the Orioles. Now if only Houston would stop winning. Despite the A's victory - their sixth in a row - they're still three games behind the Astros (9-1 in their last ten) in the AL West.

Oakland's bullpen and defense get plenty of love, but don't sleep on the offense. Entering play today, the A's had a .791 OPS since June 1, best in the bigs. That number's gone up a little bit tonight, as Oakland is absolutely blitzing Orioles pitching. In the third inning, the first 11 batters reached base as the A's hung a 10-spot on Baltimore.

OK, every team is good at beating the Orioles in 2018, but the A's continue to put pressure on the Astros with a 3-2 victory in Baltimore. The A's are a remarkable 54-21 in the past 75 games, after going 34-36 in their first 70. The A's also have an easy schedule the rest of the way: two more in Baltimore, at Tampa, home against the Angels and Twins and a season-ending trip to Seattle and Anaheim. The Astros will not be able coast to a division title.
