Sabathia says DL decision for knee was easy call

After trying to push through pain in his arthritic right knee a year ago, Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia said Tuesday he didn't want to make the same mistake this year and that's why he went on the 10-day disabled list Monday.

Gary Sánchez says he hasn't really felt pain from his groin injury since the week after he re-aggravated it on July 23. He still hasn't run with 100 percent effort on the field yet, nor has he hit on a field yet. While he says he's feeling good right now, he contends the real tests will come when he's actually in a game situations (i.e., having to beat out a ground ball).

Of his DL stint, CC Sabathia says he told Aaron Boone he could've pushed through his next start, but he could tell he probably would've been down for the one that came after that. Feels this is good timing. The inflammation in his right knee really flared up in the past two starts, Sabathia said. Today, it feels better and the swelling is down. He'll likely play catch tomorrow.

Severino's struggles continue in Yankees' loss

Luis Severino's answer was a simple one after he dropped another game Monday night, this time to the Mets in a make-up of a game that was rained out at Yankee Stadium: He just has to get better.

Aaron Boone says CC Sabathia likely will miss just one start, and that he had to "kind of grind through" his outing Sunday. The Yankees haven't finalized anything, but Boone anticipates Luis Cessa will be called up to take Sabathia's turn in the rotation.

Aaron Judge did some "underwater stuff" including swinging in water yesterday, Aaron Boone said. The Yankees RF still has not yet swung with a bat, although "we're any day now" to that likely happening, the manager said. Judge underwent more tests on his wrist today.

Remember the comparative lack of homers the Yankees had just after the All-Star break (just seven in the first 10 games after the break)? Since the calendar flipped to August, the homers have been flying. The Yankees have 24 in their past 12 games. They also have 10 multi-homer games since Aug. 1, including seven straight entering tonight.

Per Elias, with a 41-17 home record now, the Yankees have clinched their 27th consecutive season with a winning home record. That spans the 1992-2018 seasons. It's the second longest streak in MLB history trailing only ... the Yankees (the Bombers also had a 47-year streak with winning home records from 1918-64).

Aaron Boone believes the Yankees "could almost use" Giancarlo Stanton in the outfield again at this point, but they're still taking that day by day as they ease the load on his legs. In terms of Gary Sánchez, tomorrow will be a full day for the catcher. He flies to New York from Tampa tonight. He'll be hitting indoors, but will run on the field and his catching duties will start to "ramp up."
