TORONTO Orlando Hernandez will miss his next scheduled start for the New York Yankees because of an elbow injury.
"El Duque" left Wednesday night's 7-2 loss to Toronto after three innings because of the injury, and now won't pitch Tuesday.
"He's not right," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "It's nothing that's hurting really. It's more of a feel thing. We're not going to pitch him until we know, and right now we really don't have to before next weekend. We're just going take time to have him get checked."
The Yankees are off Monday, allowing the starters to pitch on their normal rest.
Hernandez, who will see a doctor Friday, missed part of spring training with an inflamed elbow.
"It's in the same area. It's discomfort," Torre said. "I'm not sure I can use the word pain because he hasn't used the word pain, but we're hopeful we can find something out."
Hernandez allowed four runs and six hits in three innings Wednesday.
Torre took Hernandez out of the game after Hernandez said he wasn't feeling right. Hernandez wanted to continue, but Torre made the change.
"He's just not comfortable letting the ball go," Torre said. "I don't want to schedule him until he's ready to pitch."
Torre, meanwhile, said left-hander Ted Lilly will be recalled from Triple A Columbus to start Sunday. Lilly replaces left-hander Randy Keisler, who ripped the Yankees after being optioned to Columbus on Wednesday.
Keisler called Torre to apologize on Thursday.
"It was important for us to talk, and I was going to call him, and he called me," Torre said. "He was apologetic. He said he was mad yesterday."
