With Ohio State's thrilling victory over Iowa State, the Big Ten has advanced seven teams into the Round of 32. That ties the Big East ('08, '11) for most by any conference in NCAA Tournament history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Iowa State has no answer for Ohio State's Kaleb Wesson on the block right now. The Buckeyes, who have taken command in Tulsa off his post game, should be throwing it inside to the 6-foot-9, 270-pound forward on every possession.

After Georgia State guard D'Marcus Simonds hinted he would "probably" be leaving early for the NBA Draft, his coach, Ron Hunter, took out the "probably." It's time. It's time for him for a lot of different reasons, for him and his family. It's the way the NBA is set right now. They don't draft seniors for the most part. He's got to go and try and make a living."

Just like that, Liberty runs off 10 straight points to take its first lead over Mississippi State since the 12:05 mark of the second half. And Caleb Homesley's go-ahead 3 just made him the 1st Atlantic Sun Conference player with 30 points in an NCAA Tournament game over the last 20 seasons.

Houston's Corey Davis Jr. produced one of the finest openers of this NCAA Tournament. Davis broke an American Athletic Conference with seven made 3s in an NCAA Tournament game, to go along with 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists without a turnover. The Cougars roll by 30.

We're halfway through the second half and Mississippi State already has committed nine team fouls. Seems like the kind of thing that might eventually become important against Liberty, which ranks 12th in the country in free-throw percentage.

The record for most 3s by a Houston player in an NCAA Tournament game was five, per ESPN Stats & Info. Corey Davis Jr. has six tonight and counting...

UC Irvine coach Russell Turner on what his program's breakthrough win means for the school: “UC Irvine folks live in the shadows. Live like little brothers to UCLA and SC and maybe some others -- Cal, Stanford, San Diego State. “Well, little brother has been in the weight room, getting better, getting ready for a chance like this. So I'm really happy for these players to be able to work so hard for something everybody can see and then accomplish it. But I'm also really excited for the fans of our program who also seem to have endured feeling like little brothers. You know, we need to stick our chests out a little bit right now, I believe.”

After briefly losing its early lead, Mississippi State closed the first half on a 6-0 run to go into the break leading 37-35 over Liberty. The Bulldogs' backcourt of Lamar Peters and Quinndary Weatherspoon combined for 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting. But after starting off a little tight, Liberty also found its offensive groove and is shooting 50 percent in the first half. It's been, thus far, the best-played matchup of the first three games here in San Jose today.

Houston's stingy defense is smothering Georgia State. Through one half, the Panthers have only two assists and are shooting just 36 percent from the field. The Panthers are either going to have to start making contested 3s -- they're capable -- or moving the ball better to get back in this one.

If the opening minutes of this game are any indication, Liberty is going to have some problems getting open shots against the taller, longer, more-athletic Mississippi State defenders. The Flames are 1-for-6 from the floor heading into the first timeout of the half, an unusual predicament for a team that ranks 13th in the nation by shooting 49 percent from the floor.

In the aftermath of Buffalo handling Arizona State, Nate Oats was appreciative, while Bobby Hurley was complimentary. Oats, who coached under Hurley before succeeding him at Buffalo in 2015, said just before tip, he thanked Hurley "for everything he's done for my career. ... I just tried not to look down (his) way during the game.” Hurley, who noted he'll be pulling for Buffalo the rest of the way, said Oats' own personality has "rubbed off" on the Bulls in "how hard the team competes."

Wisconsin star Ethan Happ, a 2nd-team All-American, closed out his college career with an underwhelming finale in the loss to Oregon. Happ finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds — both below his season averages of 17.5 and 10.1, respectively — and also had five turnovers and had his shot blocked three times. He also finished the night with a game-worst -22 plus-minus rating. Without him playing at his best, the Badgers simply didn't have enough to counter Oregon's diversified attack.

Baylor coach Scott Drew said he received more text messages on Friday morning, after it was announced that his younger brother was out at Vanderbilt, than he did for beating Syracuse the night before. "He's blessed to have great friends, great family support, and he's got a great faith and he knows God has a different plan for him," Scott said of Bryce Drew. "As big brother, obviously, whatever I can do to help him, I'm going to do. ... He's a lot more powerful and has more wisdom than I do."

Oregon, which *had* to win the Pac-12 tournament to earn its NCAA tournament bid, has looked like one of the nation's best teams in the last month. The Ducks have now won nine straight games, outscoring their opponents by nearly 18 points a game and holding them to 34.6 shooting. Their first-round win over Wisconsin pretty much followed that same script — with an 18-point victory and the Badgers shooting only 32.2 percent.

On the way to destroying former coach Bobby Hurley and Arizona State, Buffalo put up 91 points, tied for third-most ever by a MAC team in an NCAA Tournament game, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Oklahoma is the only other team to score 90-plus this tournament. The Bulls remain on fire, having not lost since the first day of February.

The unquestioned star of the second half for Oregon has been sophomore forward Kenny Wooten, who has three dunks in the second half and a block of Wisconsin star Ethan Happ — followed by a little trash talk — that finally made Ducks fans get loud here in the SAP Center. Wooten's high-wire act has easily been the most entertaining thing about an otherwise low-wattage affair.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Makai Mason is one of the best stories in this Tournament. He played one game in two years for Yale because of issues with his feet, then transferred to Baylor for the 2018-19 season — two years after dropping 31 on Baylor to eliminate them in the Round of 64. King McClure's reaction when he found out Mason was transferring: "Why did we get this guy?"

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Gonzaga coach Mark Few called Baylor's Scott Drew "vastly underrated as a basketball coach," calling this "arguably one of the best years he's had" given the injuries Baylor has overcome. Few said Baylor is very physical and probably the best offensive rebounding team in the country.

As predicted, Oregon and Wisconsin are struggling to score in their first-round matchup here in San Jose. The Ducks are shooting 40.7 percent from the floor (22.2 from 3) while the Badgers are doing even worse at 37.5 percent (18.2 from 3). The only player who's shown any semblance of offensive explosiveness so far is Oregon guard Payton Pritchard, who's scored 12 points and continuing the kind of play that earned him Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Meanwhile, Wisconsin's Ethan Happ — a second-team All-American who averages 17.5 points and 10.1 rebounds — has only 4 points and 3 rebounds at the half.
