MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Jacoby Ross scored 20 points and the go-ahead free throws, Reginald Gee added 17 points with four 3-pointers, and Alabama State blew a 20-point halftime lead but regained it late and held off Alabama A&M 70-67 on Saturday night.
Trailing 48-28 at the break, the Bulldogs rallied to tie it at 65 on Julian Walters' free throw with 2:42 left, then led 67-66 on Arthur Johnson's free throws. Alabama State retook the lead on Ross' pair of foul shots with 1:14 left and the Hornets iced it with two more from the line from there.
Alabama State made 10 first-half 3 pointers and held the Bulldogs to 28 percent shooting from the floor and looked headed for a blow-out win.
Branden Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Hornets (3-14, 3-2 Southwest Athletic Conference), who shot 22.7 percent from the floor in the second half.
