MADISON, Wis. Tina Bosworth is Log Rolling by this point. Sunday she won her fourth straight gold medal in the event, to go with a gold in the Roll/Run/Drive event from the 2000 ESPN Great Outdoor Games.
The gold medal maintained a streak her mother, Bonnie Salzman, first noticed and ESPN research confirmed: Bosworth is the only athlete with a gold medal from each of the five Great Outdoor Games.
This year she won in high style, too, without suffering a single fall. After dispatching her sister, Crystal Salzman, in the first round, she felled Jenny Atkinson in a rematch of last year's finals. In the gold medal round, she fought off Lizzie Hoeschler with three straight falls, the last coming quickly on the skinniest log, on which the smaller Hoeschler might have been able to offset Bosworth's size and strength advantages.

For Lizzie Hoeschler, the world's second-ranked log roller, the medal was her first in 10 Great Outdoor Games events.
"She's going down at some point," Lizzie said of Bosworth. "She used to have a mental edge, but she doesn't anymore. I just go out there like its anyone, not like it's Tina Bosworth. Last summer I rolled her in the finals in the world championships, and I got the first two falls on her. I know I can beat her. I know anyone can beat her."
That was not to be Sunday. On the mid-sized log, Bosworth notched the first fall by running Lizzie backwards. The second fall came after the two whipped up a gale of white water. Lizzie was constantly back on her heels and was practically trying to climb up the side of the log on her way down.

"The problem with Log Rolling is they don't have weight categories," Lizzie said. "It's like wrestling or boxing where it's a sparring sport. If you're heavier, you have the advantage. Because of Tina's weight and strength, I have to work that much harder to hold the log from her. That's why I was trying to get down to the four log, because anything can happen on that log."
Lizzie's dramatic path to the finals included a bucking match against Maggie Bulk in which Lizzie fell first, both competitors fell simultaneously and Bulk twice appeared to have control of the log only to have Lizzie spin her into the water.
Katie Hoeschler lost to Lizzie in the semis but rebounded to topple Atkinson in three straight falls.
"She didn't roll bad, I just rolled really well," Katie said. "I got the jitterbugs out of my system. I was not going to lose again."
