    Notable
Fred's first log rolling competition was 32 years ago when he was 15 years old. In addition to logrolling, Fred stays in shape by in-line skating where he participates in marathon and ultramarathon races and during the winter he also participates in cross country sking where he likes to compete at the marathon distance.Outside of sports, Fred produces lumberjack shows, owns a restaurant, is bulding a miniature golf course, invests in real estate and builds houses.

    Quotable
Fred believes this could be his last year competing at GOG: "I'm in the twilight of my career. I'm competitive enough to take this seriously, but it is draining physically, emotionally and mentally. I feel I have nowhere to go but down. I could hang in there just to qualify for Great Outdoor Games, but it would be nice not to have the pressure. There are also so many younger competitors who would be so excited to have the chance to compete....If I had a 20 year old body and weighed 180, I believe I would continue to compete."
