Seattle 2-1 FC Dallas: Sounders gaining momentum (2:15)

The Seattle Sounders extend their current unbeaten run to eight matches as they inch ever closer to the final playoff spot in the West. (2:15)

Nicolas Lodeiro had a goal and an assist as the Seattle Sounders continued their hot streak with a 2-1 win over visiting FC Dallas on Sunday night.

The two-time defending Western Conference champion Sounders extended their unbeaten run to eight matches (6-0-2). Seattle moved past Minnesota United into eighth place, one point behind the Vancouver Whitecaps. They Sounders are three points behind Real Salt Lake for the conference's sixth and final playoff berth, and Seattle has a game in hand.

Conference-leading Dallas took its second consecutive defeat.

Lodeiro's tie-breaking goal in the 63rd minute was somewhat of a fluke. His cross from the right wing sailed over the head of its intended target, Chad Marshall, and bounced into the side netting just inside the left post, with Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez unable to recover in time. The goal was Lodeiro's sixth of the season, tying Will Bruin for the team lead.

Lodeiro, a playmaking midfielder from Uruguay who joined the Sounders and sparked their 2016 run to the MLS Cup title, assisted on the game's first goal in the 41st minute. His corner kick from the right side found Marshall about 6 yards out from the near post, and the defender flicked a header that bounced once before finding the net just inside the far corner.

Dallas tied the score in the 52nd minute as Dominique Badji, making his debut with the team, chested in a deflected cross from about two yards out. Michael Barrios and Maximiliano Urruti were credited with assists on the play.

It was Dallas' first goal at CenturyLink field since 2014, snapping a streak of three consecutive shutouts during which the Sounders outscored them 12-0. Dallas has lost its past eight trips to Seattle and is 1-9-1 in the Emerald City.

Dallas had to play the final three minutes of second-half stoppage time down a man after Reto Ziegler received a red card for violent conduct.

Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei had to make just one save in the victory, while Dallas' Gonzalez made two stops.
