BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has reprimanded game officials who allowed Alabama State to run a fifth-down play.
The league announced the reprimand on Wednesday without naming the officials deemed responsible. The SWAC says Alabama State got the extra down in the first quarter against rival Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic at Legion Field.
SWAC commissioner Duer Sharp says the league expects "our officials to perform at the highest of standards while officiating."
Alabama State won the game 35-20.
The game was officiated by referee Tren Livingston, umpire Jerry Banks, linesman Jesse Harris, line judge Sebrina Brunson, back judge Al Moore, field judge Tony Scanga and side judge Keith Dollar.
The box score shows that Alabama State punted on the drive but didn't include the extra play.
