The Australia Day Long Weekend is choc full of sporting action, including another big round of the A-League. Check out the weekend's best bets for the round-ball game, as provided by

A-League Round 18 - Melbourne Victory vs. Sydney FC (Friday 7:50pm AEDT)

Sydney FC have been a bit shaky by their own lofty standards of late, with three draws and a win from their past four games, but they are still the team to beat in the A-League: Graham Arnold's men are seven points clear atop the ladder, having lost just once this season.

They head to Melbourne having had the wood on Victory for the past two years, and they haven't lost a 'Big Blue' in their past six clashes.

Giving them a bit more confidence is the knowledge they are the best road team in the competition, winning six and drawing one of their eight starts away from home. Their only loss was to the Mariners on the road, and that game accounted for two of the three away goals they have conceded all year.

Sydney FC are the top pick for mine.

Tip: Sydney FC to defeat Melbourne Victory at $2.35

A-League Round 18 - Wellington vs. Adelaide United (Saturday 5:35pm AEDT)

Cellar dwellers Wellington are in a perfect position to continue their renaissance when they tackle Adelaide in Round 18.

The Phoenix are unbeaten in their past three games, and that is their longest points streak of the season. A deeper look at this run sees wins over Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets -- two of the best teams in the competition -- so they are definitely worth a few dollars here.

Desperation will be the key to Darije Kalezic's men: They still sit two points adrift at the bottom of the A-League ladder, but still they are only five points out of sixth spot. If they want to play finals, however, they need to pick up maximum points more often than not in the final 10 matches of the season, starting with this fixture.

Adelaide, meanwhile, are coming off a 5-0 hiding at the hands of Melbourne City, and they won't be looking forward to the trip across the Tasman.

Tip: Wellington to beat Adelaide United at $2.50
